Villa Baulieu Vineyard, Le Puy Ste Reparade

140 hectares of vines planted in the crater of an extinct volcano (AOC Coteaux d'Aix en Provence)

featured in Vineyards & estates Updated

One of the largest estates in the AOC Coteaux d'Aix en Provence, located inside the crater of the volcano Trévaresse at an altitude of 400 metres.

The château was the property of the Counts of Provence and established as a fiefdom by Henri III in 1576. The most important Provençal families, the Alamanons, the Agoults, the Oraisons, the Pontleroys as well as the Tourneforts and the Candolles have all resided here.

Its history has often been the subject of authors like Horace-Bénédict de Saussure, who dedicated several pages to Beaulieu and its volcano in his book 'Voyage dans les Alpes' written in 1796.

They use traditional viticultural practices, growing mainly Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre for red and rosé wines, and Sauvignon, Vermentino, Ugni blanc and Clairette for white wines.

They offer tastings and introductions to their wines. It is necessary to book for groups over 10 people. They also organise walks around the vineyards with an initiation to wine tasting.
