Yesterday, 15th May, the Belgian cyclist Betty Kals took on the incredible challenge of trying to ascend and descend Mont Ventoux a total of 9 times in just 24hrs.

This mountain, known as the Giant of Provence, sits at a height of 1912m and is famed for its role in the infamous Tour de France cycle race.

The 32 year old from Belgium began her record attempt at 5am on Thursday with the objective of beating the current record of 8 ascents, to complete 9 ascents in 24hrs. By 12:30 she had completed 3 ascents and descents and was said to be happy with her rhythm. The mistral wind, a common occurrence at this time of year in Provence was making the task more difficult than expected. At 16:30 she was beginning her 5th ascent.

As yet we can't seem to find any updates on whether or not she was successful - I assume she is sleeping it off now!! But we will keep you posted as soon as we hear! you can check out the latest on her Facebook page.
