During the hot summer months the prefecture of the Var region regulates entry, movement and parking on certain routes that travel through the 9 forested area of the Var.

In addition to this, a daily bulletin is issued with the current wild fire risk in each of the area. Yesterday evening they issued a 'severe' (orange) alert for the southern region which contains the Corniche des Maures. The area of forest is not far from the tip of St Tropez and Port Grimaud area.

At the end of July wild fire devastated an area of the Var closer to Frejus as thousands of people has to be evacuated from a camp site. Earlier this month we also reported on wild fire further up towards Grasse and Cannes which also destroyed around 120 hectares of forest.

Advice from authorities is to avoid the affected areas at the moment and not to smoke, light fires, use camping stoves or any other items that could ignite a spark or a flame.
