Work is progressing rapidly now at the site of Splashworld Provence, after a wet winter the year before set back its launch date.

Building started on site back in the summer of 2013 and the waterpark was due to open in summer 2014, however excessive groundwater caused delays to the foundations being built, and the owners decided to delay opening for a year.

Splashworld is set to be pretty impressive once it's doors finally open, boasting a river feature 500m long and the world's largest surf simulator, not to mention 15 waterslides and plenty of other attractions. In a second phase of building they're also going to be installing a 9000 m2 wave pool.

The project is going to create around 200 jobs for the local area, and visitor numbers in the first year are expected to be around 300,000.

Splashworld Provence is due to open in June or July this year.
