The Citadel, Entrevaux

A hilltop citadel overlooking the old village

featured in Sights & sites

To get to this citadel which overlooks the pretty Medieval village of Entrevaux entails a pretty steep walk up 156m vertical over 800 metres of paved road.

Depending on your levels of fitness it could take 30 minutes to an hour to get up to the top, but once you're there you are rewarded by amazing view of the village and countryside below.

Visitor comments

  • "First, buy a "jeton" at the entrance of the village so you can pass in the gates to get to the citadel. Then the fun begins... In the village they say it is a 20 minutes walk to get up there... Well, maybe my 6 km/day on a flat base is not a good training for this. It took us 40 minutes and a lot of stops to get a glimpse of the marvellous view. Once you are up there you can see it is a big citadel. There are doing renovations in some parts of it. If you go there with children, well, some places are dangerous and NOT CHILD PROOF, so keep an eye on them. Overall, a very worth while visit." - Trip Advisor
